Brief description: 

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation provides up to fifteen PhD fellowships annually to Canadian and international applicants working on humanities and social science projects.

Scholarship value/inclusions/duration:

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholarships offer $40,000 per year for three years as well as up to $20,000 per year for three years (as a research and travel allowance), as well as membership in a community of other Scholars, Mentors, and Fellows who are all leaders and change-makers in their respective fields. They also include leadership development from Mentors and Fellows.

Eligibility:

  1. You must be enrolled full-time in a PhD program, have been accepted into it, or be in your first or second year of study if you want to graduate in 2025 or later.
  2. Your area of study roughly relates to humanities or human sciences that directly impact Canada’s future; (please refer to the FAQ for more details and read up on past scholarship recipients)
  3. One of the Foundation’s Four Themes—Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada and the World, and People and their Natural Environment—must be related to at least one aspect of your PhD study.
  4. Be either a Canadian citizen participating in a PhD program at a Canadian university, or a non-Canadian (a permanent resident of Canada or a foreign national).

The Foundation’s online application platform must be used by students. After that, their school’s registration is connected with theirs. To choose which candidates from their institution will be recommended for the award, each university conducts its internal selection procedure. To find out about deadlines and internal selection procedures at your university, please get in touch with them.

On October 19, 2021, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Scholarship Competition officially began. Each university has internal deadlines for choosing the candidates for the award. Universities have until December 21 of each year, to submit their nominations to the Foundation.
