Brief description:

Promising leaders from underdeveloped nations are allowed to pursue doctoral degrees at UBC through the Graduate Global Leadership Fellowships. The scholarships are intended to assist international students who exhibit exceptional leadership in their home country’s humanitarian and development efforts.

The University offers PhD or DMA programs. Fellows would get funds to conduct research and study that would strengthen and support previous contributions and that would be especially useful when they returned home to put their newly acquired knowledge and/or skills to work.

Number of Awards:

Two new fellowships will be offered each year.

Citizens of developing countries

Scholarship value/duration:

The scholarship value is $18,200 per year plus tuition for four years.

Eligibility:

  1. Candidates must be citizens of a developing nation (see list of developing countries)) at the time of application for admission and hold a valid study permit at the start of the fellowship financing term.
  2. Have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their nation’s humanitarian and development efforts.
  3. In January 2024, May 2024, or September 2024, begin a PhD or DMA program at the UBC Vancouver campus.

  5. Students who receive outside financing (such as scholarships from outside sources or sponsorship from third parties) are still eligible to apply, but if chosen, their Graduate Global Leadership Fellowship grant will be reduced by the amount of their other support.

Application instructions:

Students apply and seek any necessary supporting documentation (transcripts, letters of reference – see application form for details). Applications sent directly to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will not be accepted; students must send their application packet to their specific UBC graduate program. It is encouraged for students to confirm the deadline for their graduate program well in advance, which is most likely around February 2024.

By 4:00 PM on Friday, March 10, 2024, the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies must have all application packets from UBC graduate programs.
