The University of Ottawa Undergraduate grant is a renewable grant that is based on average and is available to English-speaking students from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, South Korea, and Africa.

This renewable scholarship is available to international students who are citizens of African nations, who enroll in one of the designated undergraduate programmes in the faculties of Engineering, Science, or Social Sciences, who are accepted in the Fall 2024 term (September start date) or later with an admission average of 80% or higher, and who study in English.

Their cost of tuition is reduced by $17,500 to $25,000 for the excellence scholarships and by $12,000 to $20,000 for the entrance scholarships, depending on the programme each year, thanks to this substantial financial commitment to their study.

Details of the scholarship:

Upon enrollment, all qualifying students will immediately be awarded this scholarship. It will be immediately applied to their tuition costs.

The Excellence Scholarship for African Students Studying in English and the Entrance Scholarship cannot be combined.

The top applicants with an admission average of 90% or above who apply by April 1, 2024, and whose admission has been processed by April 15, 2024, will be given excellence scholarships through a competitive process. Candidates who prioritize the University of Ottawa will receive preference. September is when recipients must begin their programme. The number of scholarships awarded by each faculty member will be equal, to optimize diversity.

Scholarship Requirements:

This grant is considered for all qualified students, who will be informed at the time of admission. Although there is no application process for this award, candidates must provide documentation proving they are nationals of an African nation to get their initial installments.

The candidate needs to:

  • possess an active study permit and be an international student;
  • hold citizenship in any of the following nations: Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, or Africa;
  • be a full-time student; and
  • Have an admission average of 89.99% or less after conversion to our grading scale to be eligible for the entrance scholarship.
  • Have an admission average of at least 90% after conversion to our grading scale to be considered for the Excellence scholarship.
  • be a newly admitted student in one of the following undergraduate English- or French-immersion-optional programmes:
  • Engineering: Civil Engineering; Chemical Engineering
  • Social sciences: Sociology; Anthropology; International Development and Globalization; Conflict Studies; Public Administration
  • Sciences: All programs except the Honours BSc in Biochemistry / BASc in Chemical Engineering; Honours BSc in Physics/BASc in Electrical Engineering; and Honours BSc in Ophthalmic Medical Technology

Scholarship Award and Duration

New students will receive a four-year grant from the Admission and Excellence Scholarship to help with a portion of their tuition.

The sums are expressed in Canadian dollars. Up to twelve terms may be added to these scholarships.

Method of Application

Interested and eligible candidates should apply by clicking the following link;

  • After receiving the application, the university would issue a Student Number to the prospective student, who would then use it to enter into UOZone, the school’s portal, and submit their records and grades for assessment.
  • Following a favorable review, students will receive an offer of conditional admission, contingent on their average, which may include the scholarship.
